    The Head of Commercial Analytics in the Data & Analytics (D&A) is accountable to the technical and strategic delivery of Otsuka’s Commercial portfolio goals in partnership with the Commercial leaders. This role will drive analytics primarily for the Commercial organization with the responsibility of identifying opportunities where analytics can generate meaningful insight resulting in business impact. The scope of this leadership position is inclusive of, and not limited to supporting all brands spanning the comprehensive Commercial portfolio with customer insights, sales analytics, field analytics, market insights, marketing ROI, market access planning, etc.  Delivery on these capabilities will translate data into insights, equipping Commercial teams proactively with information necessary to further meet the needs of our customers and understand the evolving market.

    This role oversees a team of analysts, data scientists and programmers who deliver analytic capabilities in an integrated manner while leveraging predictive analytics, simulation, machine learning and other advanced analytics methods.

    Reporting to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO), and a member of the D&A Leadership Team, this leader will become a driving force of change, partnership, quality and delivery across the Data & Analytics organization.

     

     Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

    • Provide leadership, oversight and technical/strategic direction to the Commercial Analytics organization. A high functioning Commercial Analytics organization would be expected to deliver on both, strong strategic engagement and operational excellence. 
    • Establish mechanism to ensure Commercial Analytics team has broad and deep knowledge of business strategies for the Brand they are supporting. This is inclusive of the complete development and commercial life-cycle.
    • In support of evolving Commercial strategies, this leader will provide their expertise, strong partnership and will engender a mindset of discovery with the Commercial Analytics organization. This would include challenging the status quo and promoting mechanisms to explore and implement innovative approaches when appropriate.
    • Operational excellence would be demonstrated through the effective and efficient delivery of the Commercial portfolio and ensuring portfolio prioritization is consistent with the enterprise imperatives. This includes but is not limited to the resourcing, prioritization, timeline management, functional outsourcing, etc... A key success factor will be striking th optimal balance of internal core competencies and the strategic leveraging of external support.
    • Participates in Commercial portfolio governance and provides insights and strategic direction based on scientific principles, industry practices/precedence and competitive considerations.
    • Contributes to D&A departmental governance reviews of portfolio and prioritization discussions. Regular monitoring and reporting on the operational health of Commercial Analytics, through the use of scorecard and metrics reflecting the functional performance of financials, quality and cycle-time.
    • Functions as a knowledge base and resource to project teams. Serves as a point of escalation and resolution for the Commercial Analytics organization and portfolio.
    • Models and coaches strategic engagement best practices that enable thought partnership and engender a collaborative environment with healthy debate. Demonstrates data translation into insight.
    • Fosters a culture that focuses on the achievement of goals and personal accountability, through the setting of objectives and expectations, monitoring to plan, the redirection as needed and the celebration of achievements.
    • Fosters a culture that embraces the strategic use of data into decision making through the demonstration of the value data can provide with essential direction enabling greater business outcomes.
    • Builds a learning culture within and external to Commercial Analytics, where individuals are provided growth and development opportunities. Drive broad knowledge sharing activities through the use of external expert lectures and trainings as well as internal sharing activities.
    • Accountable for ensuring collaborations and communications with key stakeholders of Commercial Analytics.
    • Attract, retain, develop and promote talent to build a team with an optimal balance of experience and diverse perspectives.
    • As a member of the D&A Leadership Team, models the balance of innovation and intellectual curiosity with discipline and structure. Is a champion of value-add change and evolution and is able to inspire and motivate others.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate degree is required in Business Administration, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related discipline.
    • Minimum 10 years of industry related experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
    • Minimum 7 years of leadership responsibilities required
    • Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry having functional leadership experience of a business unit relating to targeting, modeling, forecasting or other analytics.
    • Experience supporting commercial portfolios spanning multiple therapeutic areas and commercialization phases, inclusive of rare disease and neuroscience.
    • Line management experience with multi-functional organization.
    • Matrix management experience, influencing without authority.
    • Demonstrated ability to instill a team mindset and motivate teams.
    • Management of a budget, inclusive of resourcing and outsourcing and discretionary spend.
    • Experience driving large, complex change efforts and to drive results through influence, persuasion and relationships
    • Assesses quickly with a track record of getting up to speed and adding immediate value to new situations
    • Exceptional and demonstrated ability to co-create and work collectively with various business leaders and other key stakeholders
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to organize, conceptually interpret and clearly communicate material developed collaboratively via the input of multiple parties; translate complexity into the actionable
    • Effective influencing and negotiation skills
    • Up to 15% travel is required based upon business needs.
